Web 2.0 Tool (Venmo)

Venmo is a peer-to-peer payment system. It lets you send money to friends and family so that you don't have to deal with cash, but it also provides a social layer. For example, you can see your contact's public transaction history. Users are able to share what they spent their money on and even add emoji’s to their posts. You can then interact with their posts by liking or commenting on them. You can use Venmo to pay anyone in the US, whether or not they have Venmo, but they will need to join Venmo to claim a payment. Venmo is a super engaging and fun tool. You can get a sense of what your contacts have been up to and what they tend to do together. For instance, you might see when a friend split a lunch bill, paid half of a cab fare, or sent money to a roommate for rent. You can even remind a contact to send you money by specifically requesting it from him or her, which is handy. To create a Venmo account,  you must sign up using your email or by connecting it to your Fac...

Social Media Etiquette

https://voicethread.com/share/10726052/ Ethics, by definition, is the concept of what is good, bad, right and wrong. In social media, the right ethic equals the right perspective and the right thinking on how to leverage social media appropriately and how to engage people in the right manner. Etiquette is a code of behavior within the context of our society. In social media, the right etiquette equals acting the right way. There definitely is a right way and a wrong way to use social media.  On October 3 rd , 2016, Kim Kardashian-West was held at gunpoint in her Paris apartment and robbed of nearly $10,000,000 worth of jewelry. After handcuffing the porter, the robbers made their way up to Kim’s room, where she was sleeping. The robbers, dressed as police, entered her luxury apartment at around 2:30am. They held a gun at the reality TV star, tied her up with plastic cables, and locked her in the bathroom. They proceeded to steal two diamond Cartier bracelets, a gold and diam...

Chapter 7: Sustaining the Momentum

Image
Chapter 7, “Sustaining the Momentum,” discusses appreciative inquiry, action research, scaling up, and assessment and evaluation. Appreciative inquiry is “a valuable approach to sustaining learning and change in communities and networks” (Nussbaum-Beach, 110). In other words,  appreciative inquiry  is a change management approach that focuses on identifying what is working well, analyzing why it is working well, and then doing more of it. The 4-D model is one of the many appreciative frameworks that exist. This model contains four steps: discover, dream, design, and destiny. During “discover,” people share stories with one another that illustrate when they feel the group or community is at its best. During “dream,” the entire community envisions the future as if the high points members found in discover are not extraordinary but everyday occurrences. During “design,” the community creates a design for the organization based on the ream stage. Lastly, during “destiny,” the c...

Chapter 4 : Building a Collaborative Culture

Image
This chapter discusses the importance of putting relationships first. “These interactions become the bases for getting to know each other and finding common perspectives and experiences” (Nussbaum-Beach, 59). It is important to have both congenial and collegial relationships. Congeniality refers to the polite, friendly relationships we have with one another. On the other hand, collegiality is a shared belief that none of us is as good as all of us, and we can all contribute to improved individual practice.             Establishing trust is another key topic from this chapter. “Trust is one party’s willingness to be vulnerable to another based on the confidence that the other is benevolent, reliable, competent, honest, and open” (Nussbaum-Beach, 60). These characteristics help to bond people and communities together, even if they are online. For my future career, trust is beyond important. If I do not give off the impressi...

Good/Bad Webpages

Image
When it comes to having a successful webpage, there are many different factors you need to consider, such as digital marketing, strategy, and design & development. Using colors and animations in an efficient manner can enhance the overall design. First, it is important to make sure you always create contrast between the content and its background. There are millions of users in the world who are not able to distinguish between colors and their various shades. Sharp color contrast assists those with color deficiencies. In addition, colors can also be used to orientate, indicate or even direct the user through the website. Secondly, having engaging and interactive animations is also a great way to maximize the user experience. Even the simplest of animations can take a great website and make it exceptional. One of the greatest things about animation is that it can serve a variety of purposes. Stuffedsafari.com and Store.ty.com are both websites that sell name brand stuffed ani...

Chapter 5: Using Tools to Support Connected Learning

Image
Chapter 5 mainly discusses many different tools for connecting and collaborating, such as blogs, RSS readers, podcasts, microblogs, wikis, and Google documents. Blogs are “websites that are continually updated with journal like entries, or posts, usually arranged in chronological order with the most recent appearing first” (Nussbaum-Beach, 77). One type of blog is an edublog. An edublog allows instructors to communicate with both students and parents. An RSS reader is a way to subscribe to multiple different blog feed’s and have all of the new content appear in one place. For example, Google reader is a blog reader that will allow you to subscribe to the RSS feed of a blog you like. Next, podcasts are “audio or video files” (Nussbaum-Beach, 80). Podcasts are similar to television series in the way that they both have episodes. Podometic is an example of one, and is a free tool that allows you to record, produce, and publish a broadcast. Microblogs are tools that allow you to share...
